DIY Zine Feature
As I teased in the last newsletter, I made two new zines featuring my photography work. The first one featured is titled Earthlink by Los Ojos, a companion zine to a newsprint version of the Earth Day project I participated in April of 2023. The tldr is I worked with Metrolink, the commuter rail system in Southern California, to promote their Earth Day campaign. With those photos I created a zine featuring photos from this project. This particular zine is all hand crafted from the lino-cut stamp hand pressed cover page to the grommet binding holding the pages together. Why I state it is is a companion as these photos were not published during the project and are all black and white photos taken on film. From inception to end this project took about a month to finalize as I had to think about all the pieces to complete it. I'm very happy with it and have received a great response from this past weekends vending events.
The second zine, Rite Aid Daze, was featured a few newsletters ago, LODM No.75. Photographs from the early 2000's all taken when I worked as a the photography tech at a Rite Aid drugstore. As I started deep diving into my photography archive I rediscovered theses photos and want to give them some life and context by collecting them into a zine. Again the response was I received was so interesting this past weekend. Lots of questions and personally stories shared about this zine, how and why it was created. Lots of notes taken regarding this zine as it is a full color-zine differing from my black and white ventures.
Thank you again to everyone for the feedback and conversations regarding the work I'm producing. This gives me motivation to keep producing and act swiftly in my creative process. I will be adding theses zines to my online store, losojos.bigcartel.com, for anyone interested in purchasing. If you have any questions do not hesitate to email or dm for a conversation. Thanks again for reading and supporting this newsletter.
